Danehill Kodiac chasing prize money in the Longines Hong Kong Vase on Sunday

DANEHILL KODIAC’s owners are living the dream as they prepare to watch their gutsy performer run in the Longines Hong Kong Vase on Sunday.

Richard Hannon’s four-year-old will break from stall 10 at Sha Tin, but connections admit anything is a bonus after the journey he has taken them on.

Part-owner Andy Smith is also expecting the quicker ground to suit.

“This horse owes us nothing especially as we bought him with hurdling in mind, yet he’s only gone and won a Group 3 at Ascot – beating a horse who was placed in the French Derby,” said Smith.

“Our horse is really tough and loves to eyeball other horses. We also think the surface will suit him better than the slow ground that he’s been racing on most of this year.”

Australian jockey Sam Clipperton has been booked to ride Harry Dunlop’s Robin Of Navan in the Longines Hong Kong Cup.

Dunlop’s wife Christina, who is supervising the four-year-old’s preparation, gave the reasons behind the decision to opt for Hong Kong-based Clipperton.

“When we’ve taken Robin Of Navan abroad, we’ve looked to local riders and it has tended to pay off, especially with the post positions to consider,” she said.

“Harry’s brother Ed has won three HKIR races (Ouija Board, Snow Fairy and Red Cadeaux), and we’ve had lots of helpful advice from him and Robin Trevor-Jones who always accompanied Ed’s horses to Hong Kong.

“As to his condition, Robin Of Navan is eating and drinking well and is nearly back to his optimum weight.”
